rsat (Remote Server Administration Tools) and sequencing issu RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Do you know if we can sequence the RSAT?  On my virtual computer when I try to sequence RSAT I get an error "the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has not enable devices associated with it.  But, If I close the Appv Sequencer  and run the setup for RSAT it's working OK.

                    <LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED>TRUE</LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED>
                </POLICIES

  • Hi,

OK How can I modify the OSD when the sequencing is not started yet?  I can not start the sequencing because of the error above.

I'm in the APPv Sequencer and if I go to the OSD tab, it's blank.

  • Hello,

Can you please describe the steps you have done to create the error ?

You might need to specify the XML-code post sequencing, but lets ignore that for a while.

Is the error generated before you start the actual installation or when you begin monitoring?

  • Hi Zack,

I did arround 10 apps and never add a problem.

1-  create my folder on the desktop and on the Q drive
2- I start my App-V sequencer (ver 4.5.1.15580) and then I give it new package name.
3-  Then I click Next and click Begin installation
4-  Then I double click Windows6.0-KB941314-x86_en-US.msu to start the installation.
5- then I get the error message "the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has not enable devices associated with it"

IS it because it's an MSU file and it need a special command to run?

  • Hello,

Any chance you can extract the MSU?

  • I already tried the expand command.  But there are a ____ load of files inside. I don't know which file to use to run the setup.

  • Hello,

    To run the package via command-line, see this utility;
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934307/en-us

I suppose thw WUA service has to be running, so please check the advanced options before you sequence and allow windows update to run.

  • Windows Update usually is deactivated during Sequencing.
To enable it, Highlight the "Show advanced Options" Checkbox on the Sequencing Wizard Step 1 ("Package Information").
This will show you Step 2 (that usually is skipped) and here you can Enable the usage of Windows Update.

Also make sure that you have not manually disabled Windows Update Service on the Sequencer Machine.

  • Hi I know this is a old thread but I can't seem to get the RSAT for Windows 7 to work as a Virtual App.  I can sequence the install fine and have modified the osd files to include:

    <POLICIES>
                    <VIRTUAL_SERVICES_DISABLED>TRUE</VIRTUAL_SERVICES_DISABLED>
                    <LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED>TRUE</LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED>
                </POLICIES

When the app launches the following error displays:

"The Application Virutalization Client could not launch Active Directory Users and Computers 1.0.

The system cannot find the file specified.

    Error code: 4604EE8-1F701939-00000002"

Not really sure how that post has any solutions to the error that moore101 receives. I too have managed to install and enable rsat while monitoring but when I deploy and test it I receive the same error:

"The Application Virutalization Client could not launch Active Directory Users and Computers 1.0.

The system cannot find the file specified.

    Error code: 4604EE8-1F701939-00000002"

    Am using App-V 4.6 on Windows 7 enterprise 64bit.

I am getting the same error.

  • Like someone mentionned earlier!!

You have to autorize Windows updates in options of the sequencer before you start...

  • RSAT cannot be virtualized because it is an update to the Windows 7 operating system.  To enable RSAT a user actually needs to enable it as a Windows Feature from the Control Panel.

In addition, RSAT creates services related to Hyper-V that need to launch prior to the Virtual Environment being created.  These types of services cannot be virtualized.

    See http://blogs.technet.com/b/appv/archive/2007/09/27/list-of-applications-that-can-be-virtualized.aspx

  • Hi

I have teh same error, of application launch failure.

I was able launch and test at the sequencer machine, but when tried to launch on staging computer, it failed with this error.

What type of services are needed in what state and which part of of sequncing of appliation these needs to be checked.
