UAC Prompts do not show for Shortcuts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I am running Windows Vista SP1 with all the latest image updates. I am noticing that any shortcut that shows up in Start Menu's search cannot be start as Administrator. For example, searching "Notepad", and rightclicking|Run as Administrator doesn't work (nothing happens). The search result itself is clickable. If I search for "notepad.exe" then the result is clickable for regular open as well as admin (UAC) based open.

I wonder what should I do bring back the functionality.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello

It seems I have solved it (still a bug in Windows). I had an old iRiver MP3 player "Convert to MP3" shell plug-in. I ran explorer under the debugger and saw that everytime I accessed the "Run As Administrator" menu-item I would get 5-6 1st chance access violations which would then disappear. The call stack had the plug in for iRiverUMS MP3 player. Once I uninstalled it, it worked fine.

Hope it helps others who run into this.
