Exchange 2007 internal messages in external jounal rule RRS feed

  • Question

We have an clustered mailbox server and a dedicated hub server.

I made a journal rule with the external scope.

I found out that internal mails are comming in the journal mailbox.

The internal mails are comming from the exchange server itself.

Like the message that a user mailbox is full or the out of office mails and mails generated bij the outlook calendar.

Normal regular internal mail is not comming in the journal mailbox.

Is there a way to block mail so that only external in and out going mail gets in to the journal mailbox?

  • There is a known issue in E2K7 with internal NDRs and mail to distribution lists with DSNs supressed (i.e. Mail From: <>) being treated as external mail for Journaling purposes.  This has been addressed in the next version of Exchange.  In the meantime I'm afraid the only advice I can give you is perhaps to create some inbox rules in the journal mailbox that can identify the internal mail and automatically delete it.
