  • Hi addddd,

    Thank you for the post.

Let me explain something on your downgrade question:

OEM downgrade rights for desktop PC operating systems apply to Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate as stated in the License Terms. Please note, OEM downgrade versions of Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate are limited to Windows XP Professional (including Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP x64 Edition). End users can use the following media for their downgrade: Volume Licensing media (provided the end user has a Volume Licensing agreement), retail (FPP), or system builder hologram CD (provided the software is acquired in accordance with the Microsoft OEM System Builder License). Use of the downgraded operating system is governed by the Windows Vista Business License Terms, and the end user cannot use both the downgrade operating system and Windows Vista Business. There are no downgrade rights granted for Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium.

For more information, please refer to the following site:

In addition, I would like to confirm why you would like to downgrade from Windows Vista Business to Windows XP Professional. Does any issue occur on your Windows Vista system? I would like to check whether I can be of assistance and help you continue to use Windows Vista without downgrading to previous versions.

    Hope it helps.

In order to downgrade from Vista Basic to Windows XP, you would need to purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP, reformat your hard drive and perform a "clean install".  You can still purchase Windows XP at Newegg.com .

  •

OMG can i please please please downgrade from vista home premium to xp???

Vista is absolute ***. I have NEVER been this disatisfied with a windows OS. I have always loved windows cause its easy to use and my games run on it with no problem.  But If these problems persist I might as well go buy Linux.... the reason i didnt before is because it isnt compatible with a lot of games.. oh wait neither is Windows now.

  • As has been stated previously in this thread, you can purchase a full (or OEM) version of XP - NewEgg.com still has XP (all versions) in stock.
However, there are no downgrade rights from Vista Home Premium or Home Basic.
Before you buy a copy of XP, though, you should check your PC manufacturer's support site for XP drivers for your system.  If drivers aren't available, your downgrade will be difficult at best.

Perhaps you should start a thread in the appropriate forum(s) here to solve any issues that you're having - just a thought.  Smile

  • Yeah that figures.. Microsoft will bend for big business when they want to downgrade.  But for the average consumer oh wait, yeah right, that stupid schmoe will complain a little then go on.  But if enough businesses complain vista doesnt sell. Well vista isnt going to sell anymore... check youtube for videos on how bad vista is! Gates deserved the pie to the face and more... he should refund everyoen their money that bought vista the crappiest version of Windows EVER!

Have you tried contacting Lenovo, to see if they offer downgrade rights for that model?

  • The reason why I have to downgrade it is because I can not join my office domain if I use vista business.

  • I'm not surprised of the many users of Vista wishing to downgrade. I'm in the same boat, what's the problem??? Compatabilty with software used in todays workforce. Yes well why did I get a laptop with Vista, cause I did not know any better, then. I just purchased a net work for a client and I made sure the PC and both laptops had windows xp pro. I have two other clients all on windows xp pro running smoothly with no problems.

  • End users can use the following media for their downgrade: Volume Licensing media (provided the end user has a Volume Licensing agreement),

    Tim,

If I should use my VLK to downgrade my vista machines is this this gonna cost me one xo vlk-license per downgraded machine or doesn's has this anny effect on my VLK licenses.

    Regards

    Boris

  • I have to either Downgrade to XP, of upgrade all my other software packages since Vista doesn't work with many other software packages.  This is the lesser of two evils.

Considerating that Windows Vista has far more security features than Windows XP, it would behove you to stay with Windows Vista and upgrade your software.

Since you didn't say what make & model this computer is, the best help that myself (or anyone else here) can give you is this:
Go to your manufacturer's 'support and downloads' website, and find and download all of the XP drivers for your machine, and burn them to a CD.
    Install XP, and so on.

    Chris
