workspace creation in project server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, There is a problem which we have with project server, when i want to publish a new project it says that i should create a workspace for it,i do so but after that the workspace isn't showed in server settings\project work spaces... then again when i make changes to the project and publish it, it says that you should create a workspace,i give it the same name and it says that this one already exists but actually there isn't any in server settings\project work spaces. i'm really confused.

    Thanks in advance

  • I think what's going on here is a permissions issue. Your site collection  or PWA site is not configured correctly. So far you've posted two types of problems: First you are getting partially through the site creation routine, far enough to write the URL to Project Server but failing to create the site. The second issue is duplicate site creation error is spurious becasue you're trying the same thing expecting different results. Ignore that one and determine the permissions issue.

As Michael says at the bottom of the thread, you may need some help diagnosing this if you're not good a interpreting the ULS logs, which can be quite a challenge until you get the hang of it.

  • What do the ULS logs show when you do this? It sounds like a partial failure, and we'll need the diagnostics to guide you.

  • Hi there,

Check the Project Server queue (PWA > Server Settings > Manage Queue) to see the error there. The SharePoint ULS logs can be found on the SharePoint App / Web Servers:

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

Was that the error you got from the first publish? If not, can you create  a new project and show that error? Are you using the default Project Workspace template or a custom project workspace template? If a custom workspace template is being used, does it work fine for the default Project Workspace template?

    Thanks

    Paul

  • The error message outlines that the web page already exists. You are saying that you can see a project site link in the server settings. That doesn't necessarily mean that the web site is not there. You should check your site collection under pwa and see if you can see a project site with this name.

Navigate to Site Actions > under Site Administration select "Sites and Workspaces". Can you see a project site there that has the same name then your project?

    Thanks

and then i tried to type the url myself in IE and i got an error that said i'm  Unauthorized

  • Hi there,

What do you see in the project server queue? Are you using the default Project Workspace template or a custom template?

  • Hi there,

Were you able to confirm the Project site template being used? This is quite key to helping you with the issue.. Also were you able to check the SharePoint ULS logs for this jobUID - ece9bbfb-f8fd-4a67-a7a2-b45c6c033a42, it might give more information.

  • Another thing i noticed is in the URl it says test twice, can you check & see if there is any issue with correct URL being formed? as typically it should be only 1 test which is the project name

  • This is a long and drawn out dialog and sounds like a bug or corrupted data.  Call Microsoft for assistance.
