This computer is not running genuine Windows RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have about 300 desktops that we rolled out at our location 2 years ago.  For some reason over the last 6 months or so, we have had about 4-6 computers give up the "This computer is not running genuine Windows" message.  Everything still works as it should, but the message is an annoyance.

We have found that the only way to resolve this issue is to reload the pc from a stored image.  These computers are on a domain, and do not get Microsoft Updates unless we apply them on an as needed basis.

I have ran a MGADiag on one of the devices that we just got notified about.  I figured that I would look into it a little more before just loading a new image, since it will be quite and chore for this particular user.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • We have been looking into other possible reason for this, and have come up with nothing.  No one has any suggestions on this?  Starting to wonder if I posted it in the correct place or not.

  • Hi,

You can refer to the following thread to see whether it could help.

Windows 7 Pro not genuine frustration (error 0x8004fe21)

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindows7/thread/ccb8f2a9-9633-4b5d-8b88-3e838aa699cf/

Also, for this kind of issue, you can post it in Windows 7 Genuine Advantage Validation Issues (Windows 7) forum for more help.

    Thanks,

  • Yes.  I have seen the thread you linked to.  I have updated the Intel RST drivers for the two computers in question, and there was no change.  I went to the vendor's site and download all of the applicable drivers and updated them as well.  Still no change.  I will do some more research, and see about posting in the other forum that you pointed out.

If there are any other suggestions, I am willing to try them out.  Thanks.
