Can I leave the ULS viewer open all the time on my WFE? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I'm new in the SP administrator role and have inherited the task to administer a 3-thier SP2007 farm.

I've just discovered the ULS Viewer from Microsoft and I love it (even thought I'm a bit scared when I see the amount of errors in the logs).

I just have two noobish questions:

    1. Can I run ULS viewer from a central place to "collect" all logs from the different servers or do I have to run it on each server (or at least collect the logs from each servers when I need to troubleshoot something)

    2. I love the notifications list window, but is it safe to leave ULS viewer open all the time on a live WFE? Is there any impact in terms of performances?

  • Have a look at the literarature for it, located here: -

    • You can use ULS Services I believe
    • I believe that the ULS veiwer "footprint" is very low, although I've not got any real indepth experience with it
