SP2 install failed on Microsoft Project 2010 standard RRS feed

  • Question

A work colleague (based in China) of mine is having the following error when trying to install SP2.

"The installation of this package failed."

    His current details are:

    Project 2010 Standard (32-bit): - (14.0.6023.1000) SP1 MSO (14.0.6129.5000) **English Version**

    Windows ® Installer Version: - V 5.0.7601.17514

Windows Operating System: - Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

I know the error is vague so unlikely that anyone can advise what is wrong but does anyone have any ideas what to try or where to look for resolution?

The current version information you provided indicates the update should work okay but I note that Windows is 64 bit and Project is 32 bit. Are you sure he downloaded the 32 bit version of SP2 and not the 64 bit version by mistake?

  • As a suggestion, update Project to SP-2 through Windows Update, not by manually downloading the package.

  • Hi John,

Yes he told me he had 32bit download.

  • Hi Julie/John,

A little embarrassed to put this on here but don’t want you or anyone else wasting time on this one...

Just had message a few seconds ago from my colleague telling me he has now installed SP2 correctly, turns out our IT dept had been entering the wrong admin password on installation!!!

    Tccchhhh!!!! :-$

    A red faced Steve
