8.1 com2 port "Access is denied" RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I have a serial printer attached. Which is connected via a USB-Serial controller board.

Devices & Printers show a STM32 Virtual COM port, and Device manager shows a COM1 (Hardware from the motherboard) and a COM2(The virtual one).

So I am attempting to just test the printer on com2 by sending it the command in the CLI

    "copy con: com2:

    Hello World

    I am getting

""com2:" is not a recognized device.
    Access is denied."

I have tried com1 also with same result.

In addition I have tried "echo hello >com2," "echo hello >com2," as well as "echo hello >AUX".

All with same access is denied message.

I have done it with the regular command prompt, as well as the command prompt elevated admin access.

Any ideas on why access is denied?
