WSP package not able to remove/retract RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Folks,

I am getting issue while retracting my WSP on production box. I tried via Central Admin and STSADM command but getting error when tried to retract "Timer job successfully created". Then I tried to delete solution with STSADM and it gives error as "The solution cannot be removed when a job is scheduled or running". When i ran "execadmsvcjobs" command, command prompt shows "Executing..." and get hang.

I tried deleting this timer job from "Timer Job Definition" (Central Admin) and WSP status gone back to Deploy solution (old WSP package).

Please advice as what is going on and why "execadmsvcjobs" doesn't complete.

    Thanks, Chintan

  • Hello Hemendra,

Thanks It worked. I followed below steps:

    1, Cancelled pending jobs.

    2. stsadm -o deletesolution.....

    3. Manually deleted assembly from gac.

    4. deleted webpart manually from Webpart gallery.

    5. stsadm -o addsolution.....

    6. Deploy solution via central admin.

    7. added assembly in gac manually.

    8. Uploaded web part in web part gallery

  • Hi,

    Follow the below steps:

    1. Enumerate all the running job and get GUID

    stsadm -o enumsdeployments

    2. Then take GUID and run below command

    stsadm -o canceldeployment -id GUID

Now you can retract and delete the solution. Check this blog for more information:

    Hope it could help

  • Sometimes these timer jobs take a while. How many servers are in the farm? How big is this solution? How long are you waiting?

Are you using the -immediate parameter with stsadm -o retractsolution?

  • Thanks Jason for your reply. I have 1 application server and 1 DB server. Its a small solution having 1 web part. I have to wait for 1 hrs for executing command (execadmsvcjobs) :( Also I checked, STSADM command is not recognized in DB Server command prompt. Can you tell me how to execute all timer jobs in 1 shot in all these servers.

    Please advice.

    Thanks, Chintan
