Adding additional MOSS 2007 Server to Farm RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am having issues adding an additional server to our MOSS 2007 farm.  We have a SQL Database running on a separate server, I can run through the wizard and it completes successfully, but when I choose the advanced option to host the website, it fails with, Failed to provision the SharePoint Central Administration Web Application.  An exception of typeMIcrosoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException was thrown. Additional exception information: An error has occurred on the server.http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=96177

I have tried a few different options, like this article, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944267 I am not an expert at all.  What I am trying to do is have this new server run the front end, so I can take down the old server.  The admin before me converted it from a physical server and didn't do it properly and we have run out of space on the C drive with no option to add or free up space.

    Thank you in advanced.

  • If you want to Make it Front end server then why do you want Central Admin on this server.

Go to central admin > Services on server > Select the new server > start the web application service

Now all the sites will be replicated on this new server.

You can try to enable CA On this server using powershell

New-SPCentralAdministration -Port 9999 -WindowsAuthProvider "NTLM" -Verbose

psconfig.exe -cmd adminvs -provision -port 8080 -windowsauthprovider onlyusentlm

If you get any error, please send us detailed error if possible with screenshot. we will also require upgrade.log and ULS logs
