Reassigning named resources and not generic resources RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All, I am using MS Project 2013 professional along with Project Server. I am trying to come up with a way to reassign tasks to generic resources and then come up with a way to find out which named resource will be completing the work.

For example, if I have a task with a design engineer down to do it, I want a way to find out which named resource will be completing the work.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Hi Danielleigh45,

When you say you want to "find a way to find out which named resource will be completing the work"...  do you mean you need to determine a resource management process in your organisation using Skills matching and you also want to determine who has available capacity during that time?

  • Hi Dan,

    Yes this can be done.

The first step is to configure a resource enterprise custom field (for exemple "profile") to be used for matching resources.

Then in MS Project Pro, when you open the "build team" dialog box, you can select a generic resource from your project team and click on "match". It will point in the available resources from the resource pool resources with the same profile. You can also simply apply a filter or a group using the same profile field and eventually use the availability filter.

    Hope this helps,
