OSD and the use of BranchCache RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently implementing SCCM 2012 R2 and I have a question regarding DP or Branchcache.  The seneario is I have a main office which will have the SCCM servers hosted and a number of remote sites with no servers only Windows 7 Pro desktops (less than 50 per site).  I was looking at deploying a Windows 7 DP at each branch but then decided the best option would probably be Branchcache (as it does work with windows 7 Pro but only for BITS)

    My question is as follows:-

We are looking to do in-place upgrade of our Windows 7 desktops to Windows 10 and was wondering if I utilise the PXE point in Head Office which will download the Windows PE can I then utilise Brachcache to download OS image locally and cache it to then be used to deploy to the local subnet (so it's downloading over the WAN once)

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Well if it`s possible to set 1 desktop as a DP it would be the easy solution.

The issue with OSD and Branchcache is that WINPE doesn't support branchcache (unless you do a lot of tweaking or use third party tool).

Look at this toolkit provided free: http://2pintsoftware.com/products/branchcache-for-osd-toolkit/

You can also find a quick info about the toolkit here by Jorgen: http://ccmexec.com/2014/10/2pint-software-branchcache-for-osd-toolkit/

    Hope this get you started.
