FCS Enterprise Manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks,

We're planning to leverage FCS on a environment with more than 150,000 clients spread in more than 200 different sites worldwide.

The plan is installing the following roles in each site:

    - Distribution server

    - Collection server / Collection DB

In each continent we would have one server with:

    - Management server

    - Reporting / Reporting DB

    - Collection server / Collection DB

Microsoft says "a single Enterprise Manager instance can manage up to 10 down-level Client Security deployments". What exactly is a 'Client Security deployment'? I mean, can I group many of my sites into one single Management Group Name and add this group name into Enterprise Manager? If so, am I able to use just one Enterprise Manager to manage all my clients?

  • Marcelo,

I must say i envy you for having such an exciting project :-)

To answer your question about Client Security Deployment... A client security deployment is a deployment of fcs Servers and clients that are managed centraly by the FCS management server(s). One deployment can serve up to 10 000 clients. The FCS enterprise manager can handle up to 10 fcs deployments = 100 000 clients. So it looks like you will need 2 FCS enterprise managers to cover your  + 150 000 clients.

Note that the enterprise manager is installed on a separate, dedicated fcs deployment (this deployment does not handle any clients, it is dedicated for central management of the other 10 fcs deployments using enterprise manager).

Read the documentation CAREFULLY before planning your deployment. http://technet.microsoft.com/sv-se/library/bb896632(en-us).aspx

There are a whole lot of design considerations when undertaking such a project.

    Read the documentation:

    Good luck!
