How to - If a holiday falls on a Saturday, set Friday as an extra day off RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a built-in or automated way to handle this scenario in Project instead of manually scrolling through the calendar past each recurring holiday and tweaking as needed?

If a holiday falls on a Saturday then Friday will be given as an extra day off, and if it falls on a Sunday then Monday will be given as a day off.

  • Cryosage,

Yes. What you do is when you first setup your project in Project, you define in the calendar all the working and non working days.  Set your default working and non-working days for the period of time to cover your project and then set as non-working for each of those special Monday holidays.

Then, when Project computes schedules, it will take note of the calendar you setup and not schedule work on non-working days.

  • Well, you are not "tweaking". You are setting up the calendar and making exceptions of the public holidays. There is no way to "automate" setting up the calendar since your calendar is unique to your project. But it is not really a big problem, is it? There are only going to be 10 or so public holidays in a year, wherever you are.
