different between Express full backup and full backup. RRS feed

  • Question

  • “Express full backup— An express full backup is a type of synchronization that transfers and synchronizes only a snapshot of all blocks that have changed, either since the initial replication or since the last express full backup. It’s faster than running a full backup.

  • Hi,

a Snychronization is more like a Admin Task for DPM, he gets the changed File since the last sync or Backup. Normally a Synchronization Point is not available for Recovery, its an Admin Task so DPM synchronising and at the point of a Full Backup, DPM not need to transfer this much of Data.

    BUT:

A Synchronization or Express Full Backup for all Application Data (Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint) is also a Recoverypoint. So you will be able to recover your Exchange all 15 minutes with a Synchronization.

File or Drives can only provide a Recoveryoint after a Full Backup, not a Synchronization or express Backup

  • Hi,

Please review this short 10 minute video that explains in detail how an express full backup works.

An Express Full backup is equivalent to a Full backup but is much more efficient and faster.
