client is unable to connect to the GAL to lookup new contact RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI,

After migrating from Lync 2013 to Skype 2016, our users are experiencing issues with connecting to the GAL to look up new contacts. Is this a known issue. If yes, please let me know the workaround or solution for this.

  • Hi vinmgeorge,

Would you please tell us which way the address book download (from Skype for Business Server or enable UCS which address book download from Exchange)? You can check the address book download way with the following steps:

    1. In the notification area on the right side of the taskbar, locate the Skype for Business 2016 icon.
    2. Hold down the Ctrl key, right-click the 2016 icon, and then click Configuration Information.
    3. Check “Contact Provider List”

If it is from Skype for Business Server, check the ABS Server internal\external URL and the GAL Status, make sure the right URLs are there.

If it is UCS enabled, check if the value of “UCS Connectivity State” ’is “UCS”.

As you have already recreated the SFB user profile, please try to delete SFB user information on Registry as well. We do recommend you back up the Registry before you make changes on that.

In addition, I suggest you update the Skype for Business 2016 to the latest version as Off2Work mentioned, you can check the Skype for Business 2016 updates from following website.

All replies

  • Exit out of SFB 2016

    Ensure lync.exe is not running

Delete the SIP profile of one such user

    Re-launch SFB 2016

Try if it works... in our case it did.

  • Was this inplace upgrade or migration from 2013 pool to sfb 2015 pool?

Did you complete migration task defined here? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204998.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

try to run update-csaddressbook and see if you get any error.

Is skype client updated to latest version?

  • We already had lync 2013 installed and we installed Skype 2016 on top of that.

Its listing contact details under skill tab, but it seems like taking information from sharepoint and not from exchange GAL.

    Any other help please...
