2012 R2 Essentials Remote Web Access RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client who has been using the Remote Web Access.  When their SSL cert. expired we installed a new third party SSL.

Since that time the Web Access seems to lock up every 24 hours with various errors in the event viewer.  You could stop the various services but it wouldn't pull the website back up without rebooting the server.  Finally out of frustration I uninstalled the Essentials roles along with Remote Desktop.  Then re-installed the Essentials.  The website now seems stable but the only device that shows up for remote access under devices is the actual server.

I have taken one workstation. Uninstalled the Connector from the windows update list,  un-joined it from the domain. Reset the computer in ADUC. And re-installed the connector from the Connect webpage.  The computer is back on the domain but it still doesn't show up under devices on the web page.

What am I missing?  Will I need to unjoin and re-join the other computers in the office?  Any advice?

  • Apparently parts of the RDS were missing. Once that was installed the PCs started showing up after running the http://<servername>/connect.

  • Hi,

    >Finally out of frustration I uninstalled the Essentials roles along with Remote Desktop.  Then re-installed the Essentials.
If it is Windows Server 2012 R2 standard/Datacenter with Essentials Experience role installed, and you want to re-install the Essentials Experience role, there are considerations should be followed:
    1. Use Clean up Windows Server Essentials wizard to clean up firstly. Then use Remove Roles and Features Wizard to remove the Windows Server Essentials Experience role.
    2. If you want to install the role again, you may also need to remove Certification Authority.
    3. When remove Certification Authority, please remove Certification Authority Web Enrollment firstly. Then remove Certification Authority.

You may reference “[Forum FAQ] Introduction and FAQ for the Windows Server Essentials Experience role” for the details:

For devices which are connected to the Essentials Server, reference below link for the details about “Disconnect your computer from or reconnect your computer to the server”. This re-connection process make sure that devices to work correctly after the Essentials re-installation:

To prevent the certificate from expiring, a recommend way is to renew the certificate with your Trusted Certification Authority.
