  • Hi ITSysGuy,

Is it available to open the intranet site manually?

Please open an administrator command line and run "gpresult /h C:\gpresult.html" to ensure that the gpo has been applied to the users correctly.

Try to add that site to the intranet list then check the symptom again.

    Best regards

Sounds like a network issue.   If this occurs often enough or is enough of a problem I would try tracing the HTTP.  Supposedly Message Analyzer is good for this as a transparent trace; otherwise it may be sufficient to use Fiddler4, if only to get ideas about what is happening.  Unfortunately a withheld response can cause the symptom that you are seeing.  However, I think you should at least be able to open a new tab (e.g. press Ctrl-t) and do something different with it.  Or have you set it up so the Intranet page is the New tab page too?   <eg>

that can happen if the homepage setting is to an unreachable url.... Please include the links to any problem websites with your questions. If they are internal links on your domain network, please state as such. Homepage settings on a domain network may fail for instance if they are using a wireless connection, but have not connected to an access point.

If you have set the corporate homepage to an external site, then post back with its address so we can visit and test it.... some websites may contain content that IE security and content blocking settings prevent from rendering... (use the View>Source menu in IE to see if the web page really is blank, or if it contains the web page markup and has just failed to render...

To log any markup, blocked content or security errors/warnings in IE on your computer you first have to

go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, check "Always record developer console messages". Save changes.

When the blank page appears, press f12 to display the dev tool.....select the Console tab, and then copy and paste any errors and warnings with your questions. A blank web page (indicator of an unreachable homepage setting) will only contain <html></html> in the DOM explorer of the dev tool.... A page that fails to render, because of blocked content or security warnings, will show the complete page markup in the dev tools DOM Explorer tab.

In your GPO settings, you should set both the User and Machine Homepage settings to the same URL.... IF IE is reset, then the user settings will fall back to the machine settings for IE's homepage.

The most common and likely cause is a typo in your GPO homepage settings.
