How can I move DPM 2012 Database to a dedicated Database server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running DPM 2012 and the Database is currently on the same server. What are the steps that need to be done to move the database to a dedicated Database server seperate from the DPM server?

  • You're going to want to back up your local DB via Dpmbackup.exe

    .

    (Command looks something like this)

    cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\bin
    DpmBackup.exe -db -targetlocation "C:\DPMBackup\"

    .

    Uninstall DPM from add remove

Retain your data DPM on uninstall

My experience is that you have to uninstall everything to do with DPM.  (All Sql Server installs, Report Viewer, Visual C++ Redist., Visual Studio Tools, etc.)

    Restart the server

    .

Reinstall DPM.  Point it to your new DB server.

Run DPMSync –RestoreDB –DBLoc location of folder created in above

    Run DpmSync -sync

Possibly repoint your Protected servers to the "new" DPM server. ( I have never had to do this)

    .

Can't post links yet so google "Recovering DPM servers Technet" and you'll find the MS documentation
