VSS Errors. Unable to sync or create replicas RRS feed

    Good Morning

I have suddenly encountered all my backups failing due to VSS errors. This is a DPM 2012R2 installation on a Server 2012 Standard box.

I have seen it before on isolated PG's; and resolved it by removing protected servers from the group; deleting existing replicas and re-adding. Not ideal; but ok for the odd one now and then. But now 80% of then are failing.

Example of error message: The VSS application writer or the VSS provider is in a bad state. Either it was already in a bad state or it entered a bad state during the current operation. (ID 30111 Details: VssError:The shadow copy provider had an error. Check the System and Application event logs for more information.

I have run CMD: vssadmin list writers and they all come back as no errors. CMD: vssadmin list providers returns two:

Microsoft file share shadow copy provider; and Microsoft Software shadow copy provider 1.0. Is this the problem? Should there only be one provider?

If so which one and how do I resolve this?

    Many thanks for any help
