Win Server 2008 Standard. Installing updates, stuck 33%, for 15 days. Can get an access to files and folders, but not to the server. SQL server installed.

  • Yes.  I have rebooted systems multiple times when it appears the installation is 'stuck'.  Always cleared it up for me.

  • You can reboot.. It might go back to "Configuring windows updates" on system post... 

    If that happens you can boot safemode and disable the Windows Update Service, set to disable and stop.. Reboot by doing 

    CMD

    Shutdown -r -f -t "00" vs just start restart, as that will start the stupid updates again.. 

    When the system comes back up, 

    Run this command on the system.. 

    Save this file as a batch file..

    Once the system comes back up, you should be good to re-enable the updates, this will allow the system to once again check for updates, and will delete the corrupted update from applying to the system..
