Limit Concurrent Backup of protected members in DPM 2012 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • How to limit Concurrent Backup of protected members in DPM 2012 R2.  I have 100 servers which are backed up , I want to limit the backups of the server to 8 i.e.  8 backups run at a time and then next 8 should start.  All the 100 servers are added to the same protection group.

In the throttle computer I see an option "work schedule" If I configure the time here does it mean that the backup of that computer will start in the said time ?

  • Hi,

By default, DPM will kick off 3 backups per node in parallel.
You can change this by modifying the following registry key:
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\2.0\Configuration\MaxAllowedParallelBackups"

The work schedule above only applies to the bandwidth throttling setting. This schedule allows to define inside and outside business hours schedules so that you can throttle the bandwidth used between the DPM server and it's agents during certain period of the day (very useful when using DPM across a WAN link for remote offices, so you don't consume all the bandwidth while the users needs it the most).

    Hope this helps,
    Stephane
