Block HTML formatted e-mail on the Edge Transport RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know, I know, it will break all sorts of good e-mail, but, the cyber security department watns to block HTML formatted e-mail at the edge.  Can this be done with Exchange 2010 Edge Role with Forefront Security for Exchange installed?

    Thanks,

  • As I know, you can convert outbound mails with HTML format to plain text. But exchange cannot convert the inbound mails.

For outbound using Set-RemoteDomain with parameter -ContentType  MimeText

    More information:

    Set-RemoteDomain

Maybe you can ask a question in Forefront forum to get the possibility.

  • Hi Joseph,

I Agree with Frank. In my research, There is NO Option to block html format email in Exchange Software Settings . You may have to use any 3rd party solution for this.

    All the Best :)

  • There are things I can do with Outlook make HTML messages less of a threat, but it won't make the security folks happy at all.  Several competing products handle this with ease and I was surprised when I couldn't find any info on blocking HTML messages.

  • I think you can do this tbh.

Make a transport rule in exchange that has the condition of header "Content-Type" = "text/html" (you may need to make a second one with extra ISO formatting tags too) and apply the relevant action you want such as "Delete the message without notifiying anyone"

    I think that should work?
