Secondary Zone DDNS update in MS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi ,

I have configured a secondary DNS zone on a MS server (B) via zone transfer from an AD integrated primary DNS server (A).

I am interested in knowing how DDNS updates will work with B.since B is read only where and how will the DDNS updates from clients/DHCP server be added to the DNS database?

    Regards,

    Kirti

Answers

  • Hi,

Is there a DHCP server in you environment?

If so, the DHCP server will register the record on the primary DNS server instead of the client.

And only the primary zone supports dynamic updates.

    Best regards,

    Travis

  • Hi,

Secondary DNS servers receive all of their zone files from the primary server zone files in a zone transfer.

  • Hi,

Yes i understand that but say :

I have configured a secondary DNS zone on a MS server (B) via zone transfer from an AD integrated primary DNS server (A)

There is a server C which uses B as its DNS server.

I change the name of server C to C1, a DDNS update is created. To which DNS server (A or B) is this update forwarded and how?

    Thanks,

    Kirti
