Hard Drive Letter Assignments RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I presently have 3 drives installed, my primary "C" and two optical drives that Windows designated as "D" & "E" when I installed the OS for the first time.

I will be installing a data drive, a secondary hard drive that needs to be the "D" drive.

My question is whether I should reassign the optical drive letters before installing the secondary data drive? If I move the optical drive letters far enough down the alphabet, will Windows make the secondary drive the "D" drive or will I have to change that once I get it installed. Thank you.

  • You can change it once its installed, no problem at all.
