Why doesn't MS Project support multi-line text fields? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

Here is what I mean by "support for multi-line text fields:

As someone responsible for creating, maintaining, and communicating a work breakdown structure, I need somewhere to store descriptive information about a task that I or others will need later.

-- This information is rich enough that (a) it does not fit within 256 characters; (b) it is really painful to express without multiple lines; and and (c) it can benefit from some very basic text formatting (although this is not critical).

-- It would be nice if it were practical to keep this information in the same tool with effort estimates and schedule information for the same work!

-- I should be able to enter and edit this information conveniently.

-- (MISSING FROM MS PROJECT) I should be able to see this information (suitably formatted) in a tabular view within MS Project.

-- (MISSING FROM MS PROJECT) I should be able to easily copy a table of information to other applications (including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint) and still see the whole fields, properly formatted.

Although this is as much a feature request as a question, I would be amazed if Microsoft been getting requests for this feature for decades.  It seems so basic!!

My choices seem to be either (a) forego using MS Project for any real project, or (b) use MS Project but manually maintain a parallel document where I store the description (or similar) info of all the items in my WBS.
