Client Extensions Performance RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

On a single server installation with Self Service Password Reset.

We have performance problems with gina extesion.

If users reset their password with password reset portal through the web. It is normal and acceptable.

But if a user tries to reset password through login dialog (fim gina extension) there is a huge waiting time.

All the roles are on the same server and it is FIM 2010 R2.

The load on the server is not big, currently it is only being used by 4 - 5 test users.

Can anyone make suggestions on this issue?

    Regards,

  • Where does that "huge waiting time" take place?

    Refer to http://blogs.technet.com/b/aho/archive/2009/10/01/forefront-identity-manager-credential-management-part-1.aspx

    Is the delay between 2a->2b, 2b->2c or 2c->2d ?

  • 2a-2b 10-15 Seconds

    2b-2c 4-5 Seconds

Well at first, i thought it could be iis warm up related, and disabled auto pool rcycle. And i could see the performance gain in password reset and password register portal. But When using client extensions, warm up hack did not make any change.

A test showed that, the second password reset trial on the same machine right after one has been completed, runs much faster.

Where does the request go when using client extensions? Different thant password reset portal?

I also thought it could be client related. If the client is having performance issues, than it should effect the password reset service on the client. But these clients are generally 4gb ram, new i5 hardware with good disk io.

Actually i would also want to know how long does it take on your machines for 2a-2b change?

  • The reset client and the reset portal use the same code to talk to FIMService.

chances are FIMService isn't warmed up yet.

if u take a trace of the client, you can tell whether the time is spent doing something or simply waiting for response from FIMService
