What happens to PG backup data when Exchange DAG has to be rebuilt? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently the customer is having DPM 2010 backup its Exchange 2010 mail databases via a Protection Group that was established.  Because of some recent issues, the database copies had to be stopped, and the DAG rebuilt.  All that has been completed, and all database copies have been recreated, so that DPM 2010 can perform a full backup off of the passive DAG member.

The following question is what we are curious about. Because the DAG was rebuilt, and database copies have been re-created (replicated), how will DPM 2010 see the re-created mail databases? Will the Protection Group only backup the delta of data since the last backup, or because the passive mail databases have been completed re-created, DPM 2010 will backup all the data (which will eat into the backup storage space)?

  • Hi Christaan

I am sure the protection group should only backup the changes. Is DPM set to backup the passive DB's?

    Kind Regards
