How do I change the layout of a page that was created using Blank site? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created a new site using the Blank site template.  This default.aspx home page doesn't appear to have the usual means of editing the page layout under Text Layout.  How can I edit this page? The Editing Tools ribbon is not available.

    Thanks.

  • Hi run4it,

As this is a forum for pre-SharePoint 2010, if you are using SharePoint 2007 or version before, to edit the page layout of the default page, you may need to custom a page layout, and set it to the default page of the site.

From your description, you seems to use SharePoint 2010, the page type that support to edit the page layout under text layout is wiki page, if you create a site based on blank site template, the welcome page of the site is default.aspx page, which is not a wiki page. You can go to Site Actions->Site Settings->Manage Site Features, in the site features page, select Wiki Page Home Page feature, activate it, then the welcome page of the site will be changed to Home.aspx page, which is a wiki page, you can edit the page layout as you expected.

If I have any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

    Thanks,

  • Additionally, if site publishing is activated, you can edit the page and choose a different page layout I believe.
