Can't install Vista SP1 Code 800F0900 Windows update encounter error. RRS feed

  • So I've tried and tried and tried and still can't get the SP-1 update to install. Whenever I try I get a failed message with the following error:

    Code 800F0900 Windows update encounter error.

    In event viewer I found this:

    The Windows update "Hotfix for Windows (KB954708)" could not be installed because of an error: 2149842966 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live\.cache\d863b7301c9cc1c\Windows6.0-KB954708-x86.msu" /quiet /norestart ")

    I have a Gateway
    AMD Athlon(TM) 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.40 GHz
    Memory 2046 MB
    System Type 32 bit Operating System

    any Ideas!!!!!!

    I run sfc /scannow and didint fix it. So i decide reinitialize the PC yesterday install all updates and SP1 sucessfully. Thanks for you're help.

  • I found several references to this error code. All pointed to a corruption in mmcico.dll with a proven solution being an inplace upgrade install followed by the installation of SP1. Three different threads on this and they all had this same resolution. Seems hard to belive the inplace upgrade is required to repair one dll. Possibly there were other problems that were not known that were repaired with the inplace update.

    If they were acurrate that the mmcico.dll was indeed currupted you could try fixing it with sfc /scan now (ran from an elevated command prompt).
