Forefront Server Security - Expired Subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running Forefront Server Security version 10.0.0700.0 service pack 1 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit server.  The server hosts MOSS 2007 (version 12.0.0.6300), which I know is several hotfixes behind.

The "About Forefront" window in Forefront Server Security Administrator indicates "Version:  10.0.0700.0(Expired Subscription)" and the expiration date field indicates Thursday, May 26, 2011.  I have a few questions:

    1.  Can I simply update the subscription and stay protected?

    2.  Is this verison of Forefront Server Security up to date?  If not, can I download updates/service packs for it?

    3.  How do I update the subscription?  I'm guessing it's a matter of going to the guys with the purse strings and asking them to re-up with our account manager.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

“1.  Can I simply update the subscription and stay protected?” –If the subscription build has expired, you then need to go and renew your contract with Microsoft and then enter the new license number and expiration date per that contract. You will be able to extend your in-product licensing period by following the instructions in this blog: http://blogs.technet.com/b/fssnerds/archive/2009/01/29/licensing-in-antigen-9-and-forefront-server-security-10-products.aspx.

“2.  Is this verison of Forefront Server Security up to date?  If not, can I download updates/service packs for it?” – This link provided the latest updates of Forefront products: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/forefront/ff899332.aspx.

  • Nick,

    Thanks for the response.

My manager indicated he wants to upgrade to Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint.  I'll post back in another thread if I have further questions.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Nick

I have the same problem as described above. The link you have posted of the blog does not describe how to renew a expired subscription for FSE or FSSP. It just shows when you want to go from eval to subsricption.

I'm not sure if the renewal is done via "Help" in the console because the only option i get under the help menu is: "Forefront Help"... and "About Forefront"

Please let me know if i have miss-read or if you can advise on any other way to renew my subcription?

     - Note: I have a new active subcription with MS.

    Thanks

    Anthony
