Problem to scan from an App-V 4.6 application RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have packaged our applications in App-V, version 4.6 SP1, running on Windows 7. We discovered that we are unable to use locally attached USB-scanners from these applications. When trying to scan, the applications can see the scanner, buth when trying to scan, or in any other way use the driver, we get the message "Scanner is busy, operation cannot be completed". Canon USB-scanners like DR-2050C are widely used within our company. It seems to be application independent, we have tried with among others Pixedit, IrfanView.

Is there anyone out there who have experienced similal problems, or even better, solved it?

    • Does Process Monitor give you any indication as to what's going on while attempting to access the scanner?
    • It might be worth testing with a package sequenced on a machine that has a scanner & scanner app configured on it.

  • Did you package the driver itself also in App-V when packaging the scanner software?

If so try to remove the driver from the App-V bubble and installing the driver physically on the system.

  • See the two below outputs from process monitor. The bold line marks where the difference occurs between scaning from teh App-V bubble, and scanning with the same application installed thick.

We have tried sequencing both on a physical PC with scanner attached and confirured, and on a virtual PC without scanner. No difference.
