[Sharing]KB2592687 a problem on older networks RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Win7 users

On Wednesday in anticipation of the release of Windows 8, Microsoft uploaded 2 KB's to Windows Update. Both KB's were for Windows 7 only. I normally don't pay attention to my updates, but one of these apparently put the kabosh on Remote Access on my 2003 network.

After spending several hours doing image restores back several days,  I realized my slow remote access began after installing KB2592687. This KB is designed to let Win7 machines Remote with the new Win8 and Server 2012 desktiop.

Slow is an understatement. Normally if I start a remote access session on any machine on the network,  I am using it in seconds. After KB2592687 it was minutes.

Microsoft is aware of this, but has not made a general announcement of it.

    Your options are:

    1-Do not install the KB

2-Modify the registry by adding a Dword to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

MS has this information available. Hope you don't spend hours trying to figure this out like me!
