unable to connect the sharepoint designer 2010 connection to domain name(http://domainname.com). But could connect through http://hostname:portnumber RRS feed

  • Question

  • The issue is I could not connect the sharepoint designer settings through domain name. i could connect through http://hostname:port number only. The issue about this is; i could not connect the sharepoint site from outside the office - for workflows and approval process. Can somebody throw some light to overcome the problem.

  • Dear Devang Bhavsar,

    Thanks for the update.

The alternate settings was fine in my setup.

    Let me explain my scenario.

I had two servers in my farm; in which one server the dns was pointed - hostname.com. I found the claims token service was stopped in that server. I pointed the second server as the main server for hostname.com in DNS server; in that claims token service was running. The problem was solved. The dns name was accepted in the default zone AAM and also the hostname:portname as the local intranet name in the intranet zone. After this the Sharepoint Designer 2010 had started working through DNS name.

Next week i will do enable the claims token service in 1st server.

    Cheers

  • Hi Sathyaav,

You need to check/verify that 'http://domainname.com' is properly configured inside the AAM (Alternate Access Mapping) of the Central Administration site.

You can also check this blog for more details on Alternate Access Mappings in SharePoint 2010:

Similar problem was faced earlier as mentioned in the following forum. Also please check the marked answer on this forum :

    Hope this helps.
