  • Wait.. just remembered something but it's a bit more complicated...

If you want to restrcit editing ONLY ON SPECIFIC documents in that library, there is another way, but you need to be the library administrator so that only you can edit this.

First off, you need to activate the "In Place Records Management" feature in Site Collection Features.

Then use "Record Declaration Settings" in Library Settings to configure the feature.

With this, you can edit the properties of a document and "set it as a record". The document cannot be edited anymore. Only you (as the administrator) can edit that item anymore..

Sorry about the late answer, just figured it out.

There's another feature that does the same thing, called "Hold and eDiscovery" under "Manage Site features"

It puts documents on hold so they cannot be edited/deleted but they can still be read. The Hold feature also enables you to add a comment as to why the document is on hold.

Try searching technet. or msdn.microsoft.com for more informations on how to use or configure these features.

  • Hi Virendhar,

A document is getting checked out when you want to edit it (it cannot be edited directly on the site; what if another user wants to read it while it is edited?). After you are done editing it, you need to CheckIn for the modifications to be updated in your library. The original file is either replaced, or the modified file will be saved as a diferent version (see Versioning Settings in the the Library Settings).

Even if YOU upload a document, other users can check that document out and edit it.

Only users that have EDIT/WRITE Permissions on that library can check out/in a document. To limit the users that can edit documents, only give them read permissions.

Hope this helps, try searching technet. or msdn.microsoft.com for more informations.
