Custom Wizard Files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi- I am the proud new owner of an existing MDT installation. My predecessor has created some custom functionality but I'm having a hard time figuring out the functionality.

When I initiate a PXE boot and select the MDT server to boot to, it loads a boot WIM file and then a custom wizard is displayed.

What file is loaded first? Is there a place to dictate the name of that file?

    Thanx

Answers

  • Hi- I found the answer. There are two files associated with the "startup" of the Wizard: BDD_Welcome_ENU.xml and DeployWiz_Definition_ENU.xml which can be found in the \\DeploymentShare\Scripts folder. I found the info here: http://www.systanddeploy.com/2016/08/create-your-own-mdt-wizard.html

  • Hi SteveInOregon2017,

Please check the official guide. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc771670(v=ws.10)

I suppose you have only 1 boot.wim file since if you did have multiple you would get a list

    "

When multiple boot images are available to client computers, clients will be presented with a boot menu that displays the boot images

    "

  • Hi- I appreciate the reply but my question is concerning MDT, not WDS. To reiterate, I need to find out what file/s get loaded when booting into the MDT deployment wizard.

I know that I can initiate this from within Windows by running the LiteTouch.vbs file. But there is a custom wizard that was created by the previous admin that is different when loading MDT from a PXE boot...
