Migrate ILM 2007 to MIM 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I plan to migrate ILM 2007 to MIM 2016. Is there an official document or steps for this migration path?

The MIM 2016 sp1 will be setup in win2012 OS  with SQL 2016. Please advise. Thanks

  • Hi kslau,

There is no straight way to upgrade from ILM 2007 to MIM 2016 - you need to go to FIM 2010 first:

Migrating from ILM 2007 to FIM 2010

    and then

FIM 2010 (NOT R2!) Upgrade to MIM 2016

Then just apply SP1 to MIM 2016.

As you have ILM 2007, I assume there is only sync engine - in this case process would be pretty straight.

You can even take backup of the database and follow upgrade process on any machine (for example you can build new VM in Azure to process update to FIM and then to MIM) and in the end just take backup of already upgraded DB and restore it on your environment with fresh MIM 2016 SP1 installation. It won't be so easy with Service/Portal but I assume you have only Sync.

  • Hi Dominik Trojnar,

Yes, I only have sync engine (Galsync) only. Guess I have no choice but to install another FIM 2010 and then upgrade to MIM 2016. Thanks :)
