    Still nothing.

  • Try to attach it using STSADM operation.
    Monday, February 21, 2011 10:31 AM
  • I tried that as well, in command line, i get the exact same error msg, it says:

The specified module could not be found

  • Try to remove it from installed updates first.

    I've checked there already

  • You need to go to Control Panel > Program and Features > View Installed Updates and from there find the update and choose remove.

  • besides reinstalling SP2, is there any other way I can get this to work?

My ultimate goal is to move a site collection to a new DB but I cant even attach a new content DB

    Monday, February 21, 2011 12:48 PM
  • You cannot uninstall SP2. SP2 cannot be rolled back. You will have to reinstall SharePoint.

Can you go to the database and see if the database is already created. It seems from the logs that the database has been created successfully. If that is the case, then go to the central admin and try attaching the database.

If you get an error, I would suggest, you delete the content database from SQL and try the operation again using stsadm.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Hazardr,

The problem may be caused of the location of the binary files was changed in SQL Server 2005 CTP. To solve this issue, you should update the subsystem metadata that is a contained in the msdb.dbo.syssubsystems system table to point to the correct location of each subsystem. Please refer to the following KB article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903205.

You can find your subsystem in “Resolution” section, according to your description, your subsystem should be CmdExec.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Peng Lei

  • @Dip_biswas...

The databse gets created. I have tried attaching the DB in central admin afterwards as well as using stsadm but i get the exact error on both occasions...

@peng Lei... this could very well be the problem, however, how do I edit the msdb.dbo.sussubsystems table in SQL 2005?

I done some more searchign relating to your topic... what effect will the below query have on my SQL server?

    use msdb
    go
    delete from msdb.dbo.syssubsystems
    exec msdb.dbo.sp_verify_subsystems 1
    go

  • Hi

Not sure if this will be usefull too...

I have another standalone sharpoeint server on the network with a seperate SQL server. Lets call this SP2 and SQL2 (they are seperate servers). We will refer to the sharepoint server that I'm having a problem with as SP1 and SQL1 (also two seperate servers). If I use SP1 configuration to create the database on the SQL1, it gives the error above. If I use SP1 to create a DB on SQL2, i get the same error too. Can this still be a MSDB error? I then tried to run the above query on SQL2 and it still gave me the same error, I unfortunately cant edit the msdb.dbo.syssubsystems table so I dont know if the paths are corrected like in the article you linked above.

I can easily create a content DB from SP2 to SQL2. I can also create a DB from SP2 to SQL1. The only problem i have is when creating from SP1 to SQL1 and SQL2 servers.

Can this still be related to the SQL server DB if it gives the same error on both SQL servers from the first sharepoint?

  • Same issue occured at my client!

The issue occured at the UAT-environment. It doesn't occur at DEV-environment.

SQL-settings are all the same, ServiceAccount can't be the reason(both the same in uat and dev).

I'll certainly want to be updated when someone finds a solution for this... I'm running moss.

I wanted to add a NEW content-db by using stsadm.

Afterwards I'm planning to do a restore of an existing backup in that database(by using managed paths to get rid of my 27iis-webapplications)... but that doesn't matter for this thread:

  • Seems as if sharepoint needs to be reinstalled... works perfectly on another server.
