Vista dual boot problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello. I sliced out a 20GB partition from my C drive to load Vista. I've actually loaded it, then reloaded it a couple of times (went from 32-bit to 64-bit). Now I have XP Pro on my C: drive and Vista on my J: drive (both on the same physical disk). The only thing weird now is that when I was installing Avast antivirus, it was wanting to install it to C:\Program Files, etc. Also, when I opened up My Computer, it showed a Vista logo over my C: drive. Just before pannicking, I rebooted back into XP and everything was still where I left it. C: was listed as my XP partition, J: as my Vista partition.

Anyone know what's going on, or what is causing this? The last two times I installed Vista, it 'knew' it was on the J: partition.  The only difference now is that I had the installer format the J: (Vista 32-bit) partition and load the 64-bit version in its place.
