No BIDS and Analysis Template in My Visual Studio 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just installed Visual Studio Professional, and I cannot find Business Intelligence Projects and I cannot find the Analysis Services Project Template. Mind you I have SQL Server 2012. What's wrong, why can't I find the analysis services?

  • SSDT / SQL Server 2012 still provides "Multidimensional Databases" (formerly UDM).

  • BIDS is not part of VS 2008 directly, you have to install it from SQL Server installation media (DVD).

For SQL Server 2012 there are the new SSDT = SQL Server Data Tools available (for VS 2010!), see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/tools.aspx

  • Yes I know SSDT is available for VS 2010, but the 2010 version doesn't have provisions in it's browser to allow me to do pivot tables unlike the BIDS. How can I make SQL Server 2012 work with VS 2008, because I don't have SQL Server 2008?
