How to create a localized place where a submitter can put in their request, and then it will get assigned to the appropriate person in charge of that area? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been tasked to create/develop our team's SharePoint site to make it more useful to my team. We receive requests from various departments, and would like to create a localized place where a submitter can put in their request, and then it will get assigned to the appropriate person in charge of that area. Right now we are using a basic form to input the requests into the list section. We have 6 different forms that need to be filled out. (One for each area within the team) I would like to make our multiple forms into one simple form. This simple form will be easier for the user. Ideally, this form will have a choice of 6 selections to choose from, and depending on that selection it will contain the information that is needed for each area. I also take the lists that we create, and pull analysis reports on them to show what kind of projects our team works on, as an end result.

I am trying to figure out what would be the best tools to use to achieve this task. Should I create a complex form through InfoPath and have it attached to the lists; or would creating a workflow be better? I am looking for assistance on where I should start for this.

I am very advanced when it comes to Excel; but only know the basics when it comes to SharePoint. I would also say I am in the middle level when it comes to knowledge around Access. I am also in the process of learning SharePoint Designer 2007.  However, I do have access to getting the training I need to accomplish this task. Any help on where to begin would be greatly appreciated.  Our work uses Office 2007 products, and everything I am working with will be based off of 2007.
