Cannot find WMI instance for specified RS instance. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings. I'm trying to get the SSRS migration tool to run by specifying the instance name (as opposed to the URL) and get the message listed above. I've googled to no avail. Does anyone know what would cause this?

    Thanks in advance! ChrisRDBA

  • Command Prompt window and then press ENTER

    mofcomp "%programfiles(x86)%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"

%programfiles(x86)%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Shared\  will change depend upon on sql version.

  • Hi Chris,

According to your description, when running the SSRS migration tool, you cannot get the server name list, right?

In Reporting Services, the Reporting Services Configuration tool uses the report server WMI provider to connect to local and remote report server. If you want to configure a remote report server, the computer must allow remote WMI access. In your scenario, please check if the computer has allowed WMI access. How to configure WMI access, please refer to this link: Configure a Report Server for Remote Administration.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Regards,
    Shrek Li
