  • Hi snoam,

According to the error provided:ms-diagnostics: 1008;reason="Unable to resolve DNS SRV record"; it seems this may occurred as the DNS configuration. Please check whether you have configured the following DNS records:

More details you could refer to the following blog:
    http://www.uclabs.blog/2017/04/dns-records-for-skype-for-business.html

In addition, you could check the Event error in your On-Premise SFB Servers. Based on my research, I also find the following blogs, you could follow the steps to try to fix this issue:

I have federation issue from my online user to external users and to additional sip domains

for external users from different domains I can see them presence and send them message but they can see my presence and can send me an IM

I have checked certificate / nslookup / events in the server but nothing

when I am using on premise user to external or addional sip domain in my topology federation works

    any ideas ?

  • Hi snoam,

Do you mean only the external users can’t see the presence and send IM to the users who homed online in your environment, the users on-premise in your environment are fine? And it shows the DNS error?

According to this issue, I suggest you could follow the blog I provided you in my late reply to check the DNS records.
In addition, please add the O365 domain to the on-premise topology. You could try to check the configuration of your Hybrid environment, details you could refer to the following link:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/skype-for-business-hybrid-solutions/deploy-hybrid-connectivity/configure-federation-with-skype-for-business-online
You could also refer to the following document to do some reference, it shows the solution of Skype for Business Online users in an Office 365 domain can’t IM or detect users in an on-premises domain:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/3124484/skype-for-business-online-users-in-an-office-365-domain-can-t-im-or-de
