Block custom field update in project server 2010 from Project Information in Project Professional 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • When someone create a project in Project Professional 2010 and upload it to Project Server 2010, and that person also fill custom fields in Project Information of Project Professional, can Project Server 2010 blocks some or all of those custom fields from being updated?

No, there is no default method to "lock" an enterprise Project field after a project manager has entered or selected values in that
    field.  Hope this helps.

  • ...although I believe it can be done to a certain extent with custom VBA.

  • Thanks for the reply, Dale and Andrew.

Andrew, do you mean that I can do that with custom code? If I can, do you have reference to do that? I am a bit confused about project server 2010 programming, what script should I create and how to deploy that script.

    I really appreciate your reply.

  • I don't work with 2010, but in 2013, a custom field can be set to be "controlled by workflow". Then in the workflow created, the field can be locked down after project creation. We're doing it for several custom fields.
