Unable to set number of backup copies for a tape job RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear folks,

We have created a second VTL with Firestreamer for tape copy jobs and want to save backups to both tape libraries:

Now, we would like to modify a protection group to select the second library and add a second backup copy:

However, once we click OK on this dialog, the console crashes with the following error:

The description for Event ID 999 from source MSDPM cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

An unexpected error caused a failure for process 'mmc'. Restart the DPM process 'mmc'.

    Problem Details:

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table

This also occurs when trying to create a new protection group and trying to set backups copies to 2.

It works when set to 1.

    1. Now, what are we doing wrong for this to result in a crash?

    2. Is there a way to try this via the shell as it seems this is GUI bug?

    3. How else do we achieve our initial goal?

Thank you in advance for your input!

  • Hi,

Check whether your current DPM version is supported with FireStreamer, you can check the supported versions on the link below:

  • Apologies, it's 1807!

@Leon: Firestreamer works well for the backups; we are using DPM 2016 (1807 branch)

  • Hi do you have Premier Support or a way to open a Service Request with us ?

  • Hi,

we solved the problem by migrating away to another server.

    While we have support, experience has shown that fudging solutions if possible is both more time effective and frustration free in the past :}

I don't think we ever had a satisfying solution from support TBO.
