Lost Central Admin Server, can config wizard install elsewhere? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I began looking at an historical issue of search not working on a sharepoint 2007 / 3.0 site. Error IDs 10039 led me to discover that the search service was trying to interrogate a server that no longer exists.

Advice was to use central admin to repoint the search service to a functioning server. There is only one WFE. On that server is the Central admin link, it tries to launch a site that seems to have been hosted on the server that does not exist anymore.

So, in this instance, can I install the central admin elsewhere? I have read that the configuration wizard gives options to install central admin, but the advice is that this needs to be done as part of the initial setup. Can I run it again safely?

I am asking here because the wizard says it may bounce the IIS services when running and I need to know this might sort it out before I submit the paperwork.
