Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard | Installation Upgrade | Product License RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

I would like to ask help because i'm working from a company that they are using the old windows server as put in the title. since the phased out has been rolled out last month, i already address considering upgrade our facility to our IT Manager. I'm collecting right now the data needed for upgrading our OS but i can't sure about the product license if its still activated when we migrate to Windows Server 2012 R2. because some of our facilities in different sites already upgrade their systems but it has not yet activated their license because one of my colleague log in to our different server through RDP and we checked that it has not yet activated because it shown in the desktop interface.

    Thank you.

  • If you upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2, you'll need to purchase a 2012 R2 license.  You can't use a 2008 key for 2012.

You can't activate a newer OS with an old license.
