Additional SMS Provider installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having all peculiar problems in SCCM.

I was trying to install additional sms provider. once FQDN is given for new sms provider it gives error "you must have administrative privilege to machine(FQDN) to install SMS provider on the machine"

I have already added both SQL server computer account, Site server computer account on that potential SMS provider computer. I am logged in all servers as domain admin.

All servers except DC are win 2008 server.

    Any  help is welcome.

  • How are you trying to install the SMS Provider?

More importantly, why? In ConfigMgr 2007, you can only have a single SMS Provider per primary site.

  • * I am installing SMS provider as site maintenance from site server and modify sms provider configuration then select new sms provider.

    * For sccm high availibility. site server->one physical box. sql server-> one physical box. additional sms provider->one physical box. DC->one physical box.

  • There is no high availability for the SMS Provider in ConfigMgr 2007.

That still doesn't answer my first question though.

  • This is a ConfigMgr 2007 forum, you should address 2012 questions on the 2012 forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmanagergeneral

As for my other question, can you provide a step-by-step of how you are trying to install the additional SMS Provider?

  • it was mistakenly placed, i will keep in mind that.

step1: Indivdual servers are prepared for DC, SQL, SCCM site, and additional SMS provider.

    step2: installed DC

step3: installed SQL as local system admin user, created additional admin user who is domain admin with sysadmin right

step4: site server system managment permission given in DC

step5: installed site server, post installation task.

step6: installed two client, remote controll, software deployment are fine.

step7: potential sms provider computer account added in site server and SQL server local admin

step8: from site server-> start menu->all programs->sccm 2012->setup->select site maintenance-> modify sms provider->select additional sms provider->give FQDN of sms provider.

it gives the above error message.

  • Tried something simple like starting a command line with the "Run as Administrator" option, and then launching setup to ensure its not blocked by UAC?
