  • Hi

    In Task Information dialog box , in general tab we have duration next to it there is estimated.

    by-default when we input an activity it appears in estimated duration in a question mark "?". ex 1day?

    can anybody help me out what is the use of estimate. how can i use it ?

  • It is simply a reminder that this duration is still estimated and needs further review and update.

  • It has no effect on how Project calculates the schedule. Just a flag field for information. This is from "best uses" section of the related Help page:

    Add the Estimated field to a task sheet when you want to view or change whether a task duration is estimated. Add this field when you want to sort, filter, or group for whether tasks have estimated durations. Sorting, filtering, or grouping based on the Estimated field can be helpful when you want all the estimated duration tasks to be displayed together so you can change the estimates to set durations.

    There are two check boxes related to control its usage in Project options (checked by default):

    [x] Show that tasks have estimated durations
    [x] New tasks have estimated durations
